The Pantone Institute is one of those organizations that you may have heard of but it is rare to find someone who knows what they really do.  They are best known in their industry, according to Wikipedia , for their proprietary colour matching system that, in the least technical terms I can put them, allows manufacturers to produce uniform colours without mixing into one another.  What us regular fashion loving folks might know Pantone best for is their annual “Colour of the Year” declarations where one colour is chosen to best reflect the year ahead, influencing everything from interior design to red carpet fashion.  Their choice of “Emerald 17-5641” as the colour of 2013 came after secret international meetings where much thought and debate produced the selection of this bold hue to invoke a sense of growth, renewal and prosperity for this year.  Pretty serious stuff huh?

Now that Emerald has been chosen as the colour of the year, the obvious question is, how does one wear this jewel tone?  At work or in casual settings, emerald looks best with white and navy blue, while for evenings, you can pair emerald with another jewel tone such as a deep amethyst purple or sapphire blue for a dramatic look.  Emerald pops best against gold, so choose your jewelry wisely.
